Local Leadership and Public Trust: Openness and Accountability in Local and London Government


In December 2008, the Committee on Standards in Public Life launched an inquiry into Leadership and Public Trust: Openness and Accountability in Local and London Government. That inquiry was suspended in March 2009 in order to undertake a review of MPs' expenses.

We would like to thank all those individuals and organisations who submitted evidence to the inquiry. Copies of evidence published on our website can be found here.

In light of subsequent developments the Committee have decided not to continue with the inquiry at the present time but has published a summary of the main issues which arose in the evidence that was received, a copy of which can be found below.
